WPS Office
WPS Office Embeds E-Signatures Into Documents, Targeting Southeast Asia's Contract Backlog
For many small businesses and freelancers across SEA, closing a deal still means printing a contract, signing it by hand, scanning it, and mailing it back,or logging into yet another website to do the same thing digitally. Language mismatches and inconsistent identity checks only add friction to cross-border deals.
WPS Office International is betting it can shorten that process to a single click.
The company announced this week that it has built signature capability directly into its Word and PDF, letting users request and complete signatures without leaving the document they are working in. The feature is rolling out first across Southeast Asia, in Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Thai and Vietnamese.
The mechanics are straightforward. A user opens a contract in WPS Word or PDF, selects "Request Signature," and—on first use—verifies an email address to link a Tencent eSign account. From there, they add a recipient's email, mark where the signature should go, and send.
The recipient gets a email invitation, signs through a web page, and the sender can track the contract's status without switching platforms. The verification step happens only once, and the account stays linked even if a user later changes email addresses across devices.
It is a narrower ambition than building a full-fledged e-signature platform. Instead, WPS is wagering that most users don't want another login, they want the fastest route from a finished draft to a signed one.
The company designed the rollout around a specific pain point: contracts crossing borders in a region with dozens of languages and varying levels of digital infrastructure. Early coverage spans everyday business documents—sales and service contracts, purchase and delivery confirmations, employment offer letters, distribution and agency agreements, and content or advertising partnership deals. A mobile version is planned for a later phase.
The signature feature arrives as Kingsoft Office's international business continues to expand. Overseas revenue from WPS's personal subscription business reached $26.1 million in the first half of 2026, up 43.8% from a year earlier. Monthly active devices abroad totaled 244 million, with PC devices alone climbing to 47.8 million.
The company has layered several updates onto its international product this year, including expanded multilingual support and an AI-powered document assistant, part of a broader effort to deepen its footprint across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
